Transmission Jeep Wrangler
1991 Jeep Wrangler Transmission?
I have a 1991 Jeep Wrangler with stock transmission 5 speed 6cylinder 4wd not sure what kind of transmission comes in these when i looked it up it says it is a AX-15 - Aisin5-speed. Is there any vechicles this comes in besides this Jeep? I need a new one and was going to go to a junkyard and see if i could find one. Someone told me 1990 and up Dodge Dakotas came with these? Anyone help me out?
yes Dodge Dakotas have them, usually you can find them in 1992 and newer. Try looking at a local junk yard first. it'll be the cheapest route. and if you can't find one that works but all the parts are there, its not hard to start replacing parts and its less expensive than buying a brand new tranny. ax-15 only come in one ratio and all have the same tansfer-case NP-231. the output shaft on a ax-15 is 23 spline long cut shaft.make sure you don't get an ax-5 that wasbehind the 4 cly and has a 21 short cut spline, it wont work and you'll have wasted your money!
